Students personal life experience with Border Studies Program
Earlham Richmond College offers a program for students which are known as in the Border Studies Program. It works to improve multicultural knowledge by providing special courses for students so that they could both live with some family that hosts and take part in studies.
The program not so long ago celebrated its ten-year anniversary. It is associated with the Center of UTEP for Inter-American and as well Border Studies. To make the grade, students should complete an application form that includes about ten short essays, present two recommendation letters, fill out a Spanish assessment and take part in an interview.
This program is available for sophomores, juniors, seniors. Each fall about 20 students apply for the program.
This year about twenty students applied for the program. Students who enroll are always welcome to take special courses of the field they choose which last for almost 18 weeks each .
Students obtain an opportunity to live with some host family in Juaˇrez or in El Paso, whatever they choose.
Host families are mostly Spanish speaking, but sometimes just have Spanish-speaking relatives abroad.
The main goal of living with some host family for students is to help the students in improving their Spanish skills, also to permit them experience grown-up life. Most students usually walk crossways the border. They can cross it both from El Paso and Juaˇrez in order to take the bus or get to school.
